How to prepare for the Finnish citizenship test
1. Watch for the official learning material
The test is based on official self-study material from the University of Helsinki, which Migri will publish on its website around the turn of the year 2026/2027[1]. When it is out, it is the most important thing to study. Our practice questions are not based on it, because it is not yet published.
2. Study the topics Migri has named
Migri lists example topics: key legislation, fundamental and human rights, equality and non-discrimination, gender equality, and Finnish history and culture[1]. Good free public sources for these are:
- The Constitution of Finland (English translation; only the Finnish and Swedish versions are legally binding)[2]
- InfoFinland's pages about Finland, for example its history page[3]
3. Use integration services
Integration training includes Finnish or Swedish language studies and studies related to Finnish society and working life. A multilingual civic orientation is also offered, which you may be able to take in your mother tongue; ask your municipality of residence[4].
4. Practise multiple-choice questions
The test will be multiple choice[1], so practising that format can help. Our sample questions each cite their source.
5. Don't forget the other requirements
The test is not the only condition. See Finnish citizenship requirements.
